There is always that one event we remember as the best we’ve ever attended or hosted. Whether it was a birthday party, wedding or retirement dinner, these events become a memory that we cherish for a lifetime.IMG_0588

For those who have planned events, the idea of hiring a dedicated person to make it stress-free and flawless is rather appealing. The event design and planning industry has become just as elaborate and competitive as the soirees the event planner is hired to execute.
Just two years ago, Keren Precel turned her 15 year passion and expertise for design and events into her own business. Though based in Manhattan, NY, Keren’s client roster is worldwide. From large corporate banquets or parents looking to plan a lavish party for their child’s birthday – no party is too big or small for Keren Precel
Events.

IMG_0297We caught up with Keren to hear what she’s learned being a business owner, the trials and tribulations, and also debunk a few myths about entrepreneurship.
In the middle of major preparations for an 85-person corporate cocktail dinner, Keren’s responsibilities, like many small business owners, run the gamut. Handling everything from site visits, preparing floor plans, all while going with the flow of the constantly changing requests and guest lists – including staying within budget.

When demands get frustrating, Keren has one solid piece of advice when dealing with the customer. “Breathe deeply and be honest,” says Keren. “Tell the client what is and is not possible and think of all the other options.  Come up with an alternative budget, ideas etc.”

“I often deliver every design aspect of an event: from invitations to the graphic elements for flowers, catering and other displays,” Keren said.

For a detailed planner juggling multiple events, the trusted relationship with her local FedEx Office helps her complete projects in a timely fashion so she can be available to all of her clients.IMG_0285

“I think some small business owners are afraid to be on their own taking care of everything themselves,” Precel says. “I use it as a driving force to push myself, to create a wider network and to execute my personal vision, rather than someone else’s. For me, to have the ability to create my own schedule and manage my own days is priceless.”

IMG_0113Keren touts promotion as a key element in being a small business owner. “Promotion is everything and no one can do it better than you,” says Keren.

When we asked her favorite tips for fellow small business owners, Keren suggests, “Be available –no one will forget you if you help him or her at the eleventh hour.”

And finally, says Keren, “Good service is priceless!”
